Interesting findings from #BikeisBest research

GCI is proud to be a partner of the #BikeisBest campaign and the effort to promote cycling as a active travel option for everyone.  Thus far, the campaign’s reach and messaging have been positive for the industry. So what are the findings from #BikeisBest research?

findings from #BikeisBest research

There are some interesting early findings from the #BikeisBest campaign’s latest research.  The vast majority of people support measures for walking and cycling, in fact its 6.5 to 1.  It is widely recognised that all cyclists want to feel safer on our roads.  To confirm this, the campaign found that 86% want improvements in infrastructure so that they can keep cycling.

During the national lockdown earlier this year, more people than ever were inspired to start cycling.  Reasons varied from commuting to work, physical exercise or to improve mental wellbeing.

The phenomenal growth in cycling continues. This new research shows that 29% of new cyclists expect to buy an e-bike.  E-bikes are a great way for new cyclists to build fitness but also to encourage them keep on cycling as e-bikes make hills and distances shrink.  E-bikes make the cycling experience more enjoyable and longer lasting.

#BikeisBest found that demographics are changing with an increase in the number of women now taking up cycling. New cyclists are 59% male, 41% female. The findings from the #BikeisBest research certainly highlights the positive changes made towards cycling.
