About us

We’re a Social Enterprise, whose vision is to encourage commuters out of their cars and onto a bicycle, with the dual purpose of improving the individual’s health and wellbeing, as well as reducing the environmental impact of pollution and congestion from motor vehicles.

We are self-supporting and generate the monies we need to make things happen.  We put our profits back into getting more commuters cycling.

Environmental benefits

We want to see our environment recover from the pollution generated by thousands of needless car journeys.  In particular, we need to reduce the amount of Nitrogen Dioxide and diesel particulates in the air we and our children breathe.  We believe that e-bikes offer the first really viable alternative for commuters.  We think every individual who makes the change contributes to making the planet we live on a slightly better place for us all.  It’s why we do what we do.

Health benefits

Cycling to work brings enormous benefits to both an individual’s physical and mental health.  Recent research has shown that people with long term health issues, such as Type 2 Diabetes, can reverse the disease’s progress, even going into remission, simply by making lifestyle changes such as exercising more and eating a healthier diet.  Cycling to work can easily slot into everyday lives whilst making a huge difference to an individual’s life.  It’s proven that people who cycle (including e-bikes) have around ten more active years of life than those who don’t.

FCA authorised

Green Commute Initiative Ltd is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.  We are the only cycle-to-work scheme provider operating this way.  We comply with the FCA standards of conduct and we have a responsibility to treat customers fairly, be open and honest.  You won’t find any hidden clauses or any unfair terms in anything we do.  You will find simple, straight forward agreements and a proper mechanism for handling complaints. Our complaint handling may be a bit rusty though, because to date we haven’t had any.

Working with public bodies

Green Commute Initiative continues to work with councils and health trusts and we’ve put together a Framework agreement with Somerset County Council.  This has subsequently been used by other public bodies enabling them to follow best practice and avoid the overhead of the tender process.

All Party Parliamentary Cycling Group

Green Commute Initiative is an Associate Member of the APPCG whose vision is to get more people cycling in the UK, more often, and to use its role as Parliamentarians to promote all forms of cycling.
