Supported charities

Thank you for using GCI’s Commuter Wallet to access the Cycle to Work Scheme.

Commuter Wallets remain active for three years after which point any remaining monies will be donated to charity. During the lifespan of your wallet, you will receive regular emails from GCI to remind you of the balance remaining which gives you the opportunity to spend it. Once three years have passed, the balance will be donated to charity. Please note that the Commuter Wallet has a minimum order value of £10. If your balance falls below £10, this will be donated to charity.

Why do you do this? GCI is a not-for-profit organisation and we do not seek to financially benefit from any unspent wallet money (even the odd penny can start to add up). In addition, we cannot allow wallets to exist indefinitely. For this reason, we have put a mechanism in place for you to be able to donate any remaining balance to a charity of your choice. If you do not select a charity, one will be randomly selected on your behalf.

Our charity partners are:

Alzheimer’s Research UK

Alzheimer’s Research UK is the UK’s leading dementia research charity. We’re working to revolutionise the way we treat, diagnose and prevent dementia. But we will not stop there. With your support, we will keep going until every person is free from the heartbreak of dementia. We exist for a cure.

Brake

We want a world where everyone is free to move in a safe and healthy way, every day. We work to stop road deaths and injuries, support people affected by road crashes and campaign for safe and healthy mobility for all.

British Heart Foundation

We fund around £100 million of research each year into all heart and circulatory diseases and the things that cause them. Heart diseases. Stroke. Vascular dementia. Diabetes. They’re all connected, and they’re all under our microscope.

Canal & River Trust

Founded in 2012, Canal & River Trust is the UK’s largest waterways charity, caring for a 2,000-mile network of stunning canals and navigable rivers. Connecting many of the UK’s urban and rural areas, we provide essential spaces for wildlife and people, helping us all feel happier and healthier.

Cancer Research UK

Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading cancer charity dedicated to saving lives through research, influence and information. We support research into all aspects of cancer through the work of over 4,000 scientists, doctors and nurses. This pioneering work into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer has helped save millions of lives.

Crisis

We are the national charity for people experiencing homelessness. We help people out of homelessness and campaign for the changes needed to solve it altogether.

Cycling UK

Our mission at Cycling UK is to enable millions more to cycle. Imagine a country where cycling is a safe and popular mode of transport for people of all backgrounds and abilities, where air pollution is no longer poisoning our children, obesity has been eliminated, and traffic congestion is gone.

Kidney Care UK

Kidney Care UK is the UK’s leading kidney patient support charity. We provide practical, emotional and financial support to thousands of kidney patients and their families every year, as well as campaigning for change and investing in improvements in kidney care within the healthcare sector. We believe that no one should face kidney disease alone.

Mind

We provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. We campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding.

Shelter

Home is a human right. It’s our foundation and it’s where we thrive. Yet, every day millions of people are being devastated by the housing emergency. We exist to defend the right to a safe home. Because home is everything.

Sustrans

We’re the charity making it easier for everyone to walk, wheel and cycle. We work for and with communities, helping them come to life by walking, wheeling and cycling to create healthier places and happier lives for everyone.

The Bikeability Trust

The Bikeability Trust is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation with the vision to ensure everyone has the confidence to cycle and enjoy this skill for life. The Trust manages, develops and promotes the Bikeability programme on behalf of the Department for Transport.

Wheels for All

Wheels for All is a national accessible cycling charity which promotes inclusive cycling through a range of successful community engagement programmes that give people the opportunity to cycle on a regular basis; through help, support and guidance. Most noticeably this is all achieved through our two nationally acclaimed initiatives, our namesake Wheels for All and Pedal Away.

Can I choose a charity not listed? Unfortunately not. We have tried to select a broad range of charities.
